What is Countdown to Fitness?
It is a FREE “marathon” (26.2 miles) program hosted by Running Zone Foundation for all elementary and middle schools in Brevard County. Every elementary and middle school, whether they are a charter, private, public school or home school group, are eligible to participate.
How can any student in elementary or middle school run a marathon?
They will run a marathon in 1-mile increments over a period of 10 week program and keep track of their miles by coloring a tracking sheet. For every 5 miles each student receive prizes to keep them motivated towards their goal. On the day of the Space Coast Final Mile (the 26th mile), students from all over Brevard County will finish the marathon together and have a big party to celebrate!
How much does it cost to participate? Space Coast Countdown to Fitness & Final Mile is a FREE program.
When can I register my child? Registration for the Countdown to Fitness program OPENS on Dec. 17, 2019 and CLOSES on Feb. 1, 2020. Registration for the Final Mile OPENS on April 1, 2020 and CLOSES on April 28, 2020. Two separate registrations must be completed for the Countdown to Fitness program and the Final Mile.
When and where does the Final Mile take place?
The Space Coast Final Mile IS NOW A VIRTUAL EVENT DUE TO COVID-19 – May 2, 2020
What is a Commander in the Countdown to Fitness?
The Commander is the person in charge of this program at your school. We ask students not to sign up until the Commander registers themselves and the school.
Does the Commander have to be a runner/coach/trainer?
Absolutely not! We will provide everything you need in your Commander’s Kit to make this program a success including information on stretching, hydration, proper running form and even lesson plans to be used in the classroom to coordinate with this training program. All you need is a little bit of extra time and a passion to inspire kids.
